Why do we have to observe our breath in meditation?

Because by doing that, we can attach the best principles to the basic functions and make it them strong causes in order to receive desired effects.

- Why don't we observe our heart beats instead of our breathes?
- Both breathes and heart beats are processes which are initiated by the old brain to control basic functions. The difference is it is much more difficult to control heart beats than to control the breathes.
